The Challenge
Every year, thousands of Denver families face the same daunting question: which preschool is right for our child, and how do we pay for it? For families navigating this decision for the first time, especially those who speak a language other than English at home or who don't have an existing relationship with the early childhood system, the options can feel scattered and hard to access. DPP needed a single, welcoming space where families could meet real schools, ask real questions, and walk away with a clear next step toward enrollment. The event also had to work at scale. Dozens of preschools and community partners needed a coordinated, well-run venue to connect with families face-to-face, all while reflecting DPP's commitment to reaching historically underrepresented communities across the city.
GHG Approach
GHG played a large role in planning and executing DPP's annual signature Preschool Showcase, a free, family-facing event held annually at various venues, including the Denver Zoo. For the 2020 event, our team managed the event from concept to closing shuttle, including:
Partner recruitment and coordination: Supporting DPP in securing participation from dozens of preschools, from neighborhood Montessori schools to Denver Public Schools
Resource integration: Bringing in trusted community resources, like Mile High 2-1-1, the Colorado Child Care Assistance Program, and Denver Zoo's own Nature Play programming, so families left with a full picture of the support available to them
Accessibility planning: Coordinating free shuttle service so transportation was not a barrier
On-the-ground engagement: Deploying GHG's multilingual Community Connectors to greet families, answer questions in-language and guide them through the venue
Day-of production and setup: Supporting DPP on the event signage and handout, then having our team on-site to set up the venue, ensuring a smooth, welcoming experience from the moment doors opened
Media relations and earned media: Pitching the Showcase to English- and Spanish-language broadcast outlets across Denver, and securing multi-outlet television coverage that built awareness
Spanish-language media training: Preparing DPP staff for a Univision Despierta Colorado interview, including message coaching and Spanish-language talking points, to ensure clear, confident representation of the program on-air
